We have just a few guidelines. Here they are:
1. When possible, recordings should be at least 30 seconds long (and up to an hour or longer!). Long enough to give a sense of the place (e.g. a whole cycle of the stoplight at a busy intersection), not just a sound effect (e.g. one honk from one car at a busy intersection). 2. Do not risk your safety to make a recording! The busy intersection will sound just fine recorded from the sidewalk, no need to stand in the middle of the street! 3. Consider the privacy of those around you. We will not post any sound that includes individually identifiable voices or other personal information. Good: the chatter of a crowd. Bad: A person saying their name, address, employment or immigration status, etc. 4. Submit recordings in whatever format you like. Sounds recorded on cell phones are just as welcome as sounds recorded on professional equipment. 5. Not every recording will be added to the map. But you can expect constructive feedback if your sound is not selected. 6. Have fun! Listening can be exciting, calming, educational, recreational, and everything in between. Get lost in it (safely), and if the recording doesn't come out, so what? Got it? Now you can fill out the form below and send in your sound! |
Once you have completed the form, Gmail/Google Drive users please click here to upload your sound. If you do not use Gmail/Google Drive, submit your sound by e-mailing smaller files to kentuckianasounds@gmail.com, or by sending larger files to the same address through WeTransfer.
